M3: Monarchs, Milkweed & Me
(Mission, TX) – Saturday, October 14, the National Butterfly Center will host its proprietary Monarch Conservation program, M3: Monarchs, Milkweed & Me, exclusively for Girl Scouts. This very special event kicks off the arrival of Monarch migration season in South Texas, and gives Daisies - Ambassadors the opportunity to earn their M3 fun patch.
“The M3 program is a designed to educate people of all ages concerning the needs of Monarchs in a practical way, so each is empowered to make a difference,” explains Marianna Trevino Wright, executive director of the National Butterfly Center. “We welcome Girl Scouts from across the region to Discover, Connect and Take Action, in order to help Texas’ state insect recover from a historic decline in numbers.”
M3 is all about developing and channeling G.I.R. L. Power to transform our world for the better. The registration fee of $15 pp includes the badge, supplies, instruction from 9AM - 12PM, plus all-day park admission. There is no charge for 2 leaders/troop; parents and siblings pay applicable park admission, only. Individuals and troops may sign up online at www.NationalButterflyCenter.org. All participants are invited to pack a lunch and picnic under the Monarch Palapa.
A project of the North American Butterfly Association (NABA), the National Butterfly Center is focused on GROWING CONNECTIONS between people, plants and pollinators, through environmental education and the conservation of native plant and butterfly species. This 100-acre habitat restoration project is one great, big, beautiful demonstration garden designed to showcase the diversity and functionality of native plants that provide critical breeding and feeding areas for butterflies and all our wildlife.
